  • Provide expert guidance to producers on Soil, Plant Health, Pest Control , and Agri-Tech innovations
  • Drive technical administration across key categories:
    • PPP Lists / MRL Monitoring

    • New cultivar development & field monitoring
  • Work closely with packhouses, producers, and international clients

What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Viticulture, Horticulture, Soil Science , or related field

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Co-ordinator to join the Western Cape Team. This permanent position is ideally located in the Citrusdal area.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Program Manager in delivering technical support for the SIT program, including pest monitoring services for False Codling Moth (FCM), Fruit Fly (FF), Bactrocera Dorsalis (BD), and Carob Moth (CM) through orchard visits and data analytics (from release to recapture and infestation).
  2. Assist with all technical requests in the Olifants River Valley (Citrusdal), Hex River Valley (De Doorns), NUY Valley, and Orange River Valley (Kakamas) regarding pest activity in citrus orchards and table grape vineyards.
  3. Liaise with the Program Manager to ensure timely orchard visits and reports are prepared weekly.
  4. Visit orchards with high pest activity, identify possible causes, and prepare short scientific reports with recommendations. Follow-up visits will be required to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  5. Oversee field-based flight tests for the SIT program to ensure proper conduct.
  6. Monitor pest flight peaks, mainly focusing on FCM, to determine timing for alternative measures.
  7. Assist the Program Manager with new season customer sign-ups and onboarding.
  8. Support weekly customer interactions as identified through monitoring or as requested.
  9. Assist the Area Co-ordinator with managing field traps and monitoring data stations weekly.
  10. Monitor qualitative and quantitative aspects of sterile FCM releases, including flight ability quality checks, and assist with corrective actions if needed.
  11. Participate in internal meetings and presentations as required.
  12. Manage distribution of moths from the production facility to various areas, ensuring quality parameters are met.
  13. Manage ratios for all areas and advise area Managers and the Program Manager accordingly.
  14. Assist in managing program-related information, including maintenance of operational and program documentation.
  15. Coordinate with various departments to standardize protocols and related information across the program nationally.

Requirements:

  • BSc (Hons) in Entomology or a similar field.
  • Knowledge of pest management products, IPM systems, and implementation in citrus will be advantageous.
  • Good understanding of insect biology and ecology in agro-ecosystems.
  • Excellent computer, report writing, and data skills (Microsoft Office suite).
  • Valid driver’s license; travel will be required.

Education: Degree in Entomology or similar field (BSc, Hons)
