Job Overview:
The TB Clinical Nurse Mentor will provide targeted clinical mentorship and technical support to healthcare workers at all levels of care across the selected subdistricts. The role aims to improve the quality of TB service delivery by enhancing TB screening, testing, linkage, and retention on treatment and care in line with the National Department of Health policies and guidelines. This position requires excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Additionally, the role demands a person who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and passionate about driving positive change.
Key Responsibilities Include:
· Provide on-site clinical mentorship and supportive supervision to facility-based professional nurses and TB focal nurses on the clinical management of TB patients
· Provide guidance on strengthening the implementation of TB Infection Prevention and control in high burden facilities.
· Support efforts to integrate services (TB, HIV, NCDs) in Primary Health Care facilities and in differentiated models of care.
· Support facilities to apply quality improvement (QI) methodologies to address TB care cascade gaps (screening, diagnosis, treatment initiation, treatment success).
· Conduct skills-building sessions and in-service training aligned with updated TB guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
· Provide on-site and remote/telephonic mentoring and support to health facility nurses.
· Collaborate with subdistrict and district health teams to identify underperforming facilities and co-development of mentoring plans.
· Participate in joint facility visits with district and partner programme staff and contribute to routine reporting, feedback loops, and planning.
· Compile and disseminate narrative and quantitative reports on key project progress indicators.
· Document best practices, success stories, and areas for improvement and contribute to knowledge-sharing platforms within the TB programme.
· Conduct onsite assessment and ensure that people diagnosed with TB in the community, DCXR, and testing sites are linked successfully to care.
· Conduct TB clinical and mortality audits in selected health facilities.
· Troubleshoot or escalate any barriers to TB service provision timeously.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Clinical expertise in TB and TB/HIV co-management
· Mentorship and adult learning facilitation skills
· Quality improvement methodologies
· Familiarity with national TB information systems , EDRWeb, DHIS)
· Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
· Flexibility and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse communities and facilities
· Excellent collation and report writing skills.
Qualification and Experience:
· Registered Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)/registered clinical associates with HPCSA.
· Post-basic qualification in Primary Health Care (PHC), Community Health, or TB/HIV will be an advantage
· At least 5 years of clinical nursing experience, including 3 years in TB and/or TB/HIV service delivery
· Demonstrated minimum 2 years' experience in training, mentoring, and capacity building of healthcare workers and management of multiple projects.
· Proven understanding of South Africa's National TB Programme policies
· Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
· Willingness to travel frequently within the subdistrict (driver's license required)

Requirements and Experience
- Relevant qualification within a specialist area or equivalent NQF 7.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse/ Midwife or Registration with HPCSA as a Clinical Technologist (Independent Practice)
- Experience in renal nursing is a strong recommendation.
- Capacity to implement and maintain health practice standards required by accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation.
- Must be able to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills required.
- Must be able to travel
- Driver's licence and own transport essential

Key Performance Areas
- To perform dialysis according to prescription in a safe manner and follow NRC's internal policies and procedures.
- To provide optimal patient care per the nursing scope of practice and NRC's clinical care pathways.
- Manage and maintain all medical equipment following NRC's technical policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all NRC quality initiative programs are utilised for the patients under your management.
- Ensure that all patient clinical records are maintained and updated according to the deadlines, policies and procedures, and NRC standards.
- Ensure that all financial policies and procedures are followed in the unit, i.e. confirmation, billing, private patients, stock, waste, etc.
- Responsible for leading the shift and supervising all subcategories on the floor daily.
- Demonstrate the National Renal Care Values and Caring the NRC Way.
