Purpose
The Individual Life Advanced Analytics function is responsible for innovative, strategic and impactful projects for the business. The focus of the team is to support development and implementation of data science projects and involves exposure to a wide range of business areas such as underwriting, claims, legal and other operations, as well as the wider Discovery Group.
Key Outputs / Job Responsibilities
Key Outputs may include but are not limited to:
- Mining large structured and unstructured datasets for data exploration to find new insights
- Perform data investigations to inform operational efficiency and interaction strategies
- Transform data into meaningful model inputs and data pipelines
- Develop and refine predictive models such as fraud, underwriting and customer behavioural models
- Prototyping and supporting the implementation of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Model (LLM) and other generative AI business cases
- Support model implementation and monitoring of model performance
- Further develop existing models and research new techniques to fully utilise the unique and rich Discovery data universe
- Participate in the wider Discovery Data Science community

- Planning for new products, serving as the link between systems and actuarial, and ensuring products are built as required.
- Reviewing new product specifications and conducting actuarial vetting scenarios.
- Analyzing servicing scenarios and identifying possible system constraints on product design.
- Ongoing involvement in addressing individual policy queries and issues.

Key Responsibilities
Gen Re is looking for an actuary with 3-6 years working experience to join our valuations team. The position will report to the Reserving Manager.
- Assist with financial reporting on a US GAAP and IFRS basis
- Assist with regulatory reporting for SAM and Solvency II
- Engaging with internal and external auditors after the year end
- Assist with any further system design developments required from a US GAAP LDTI and IFRS 17 perspective
- Analyse valuation data and results to gain a deeper understanding and insight into the business
- Development and maintenance of tools to analyse actuarial data to enhance management and regulatory reporting
- Monitoring and provision of management information
- Participation in international projects (for example US GAAP LDTI / IFRS 17 / Admin Data Systems projects)
- Automation of models and business processes
- Analyse and assess the valuation data for the purpose of experience studies or assumption setting.
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified actuary with a minimum of 3 years’ experience
- Excellent IT skills (MS Office, SQL Server, working with large datasets)
- Strong problem-solving skills, particularly when in new situations or dealing with clients
- Excellent skills in actuarial modelling, data, and statistical analysis
- Strong statistical software skills (Knowledge of R, Python and GGY AXIS will be advantageous)
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills

- Self-motivated with a flexible attitude and enthusiasm for the role
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
