IntroductionThe Head of Online Product is a pivotal role within the Woolworths Online Team, responsible for overseeing the development and management of a large portfolio of Online & App digital products across food, fashion, beauty and homeware. The role is both strategic and operational in nature, influencing and managing the broader rationalisation and prioritisation of the digital roadmap, commercial value tracking and ensuring an efficient and quality outcome across a number of cross-functional squads.
Key Responsibilities- Define the multi-year Online Product Strategy and Vision , in alignment with the broader Foods, Fashion and E-commerce strategies.
- Lead a diverse team of product managers, product owners and cross-functional squads to execute against the strategy and vision, ensuring teams are empowered, skilled, and work effectively to deliver and support quality digital products.
- Ownership of the Online Product Roadmap and facilitation of the prioritisation process and backlog management.
- Lead the end-to-end product development lifecycle, from ideation and concept validation to implementation and release.
- Work closely with the Online Programme Lead to drive the delivery of the Online Product Roadmap throughout the lifecycle.
- Implement product management best practices to ensure timely and efficient product delivery.
- Work closely with the Head of the Value Creation, UX & CRO to ensure customer insights and experience are at the heart of discovery, design and execution.
- Use customer insights and data analytics to drive product improvements and optimize user experience.
- Commercial oversight and value tracking of digital products, ensuring appropriate budget allocation against defined value targets and tracking to these goals.
- Define business case for digital initiatives and its ROI.
- Ensure smooth transition of initiatives from the build cycle into the Production Support Model, based on accepted quality metrics.
- Working with the Online Programme to be a key driver of transforming Woolies Online to a high velocity enterprise , including key inputs to a maturing and adapting operating model.
- Monitor the market to identify shifts and opportunities that could be considered for the Online Roadmap.
- Technology and platform management: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in digital product development and support.
- Evaluate and select suitable platforms and technologies to support digital products and services.
- Regularly interact with stakeholders and partners to understand challenges and formulate plans to address these challenges through the use of, or changes in, the Online platform.
- Support, coach and mentor the Product team to grow in their capabilities and deliver quality initiatives.
- Grow the Product team to meet the demands of the Online roadmap, through recruitment, contracting and skills development.
- Responsible for the overall success of the Online platform as a product and the associated success metrics as defined in the Online KPI scorecard.
- Strong management, leadership and people skills.
- Customer and quality obsessed, striving for simple solutions to often complex problems.
- Strong understanding of product model operating models and levers that drive quality and efficiency.
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills - ability to collaborate and work in a matrix organization.

- Review and QA AI Outputs: Analyze and correct AI-generated outputs related to contracts, accounts receivable transactions, reconciliations, and similar data.
- Identify and Escalate Issues: Flag logic errors, inconsistencies, or unclear agent behavior, and escalate them to leads or relevant stakeholders.
- Document and Report Edge Cases: Help document unique cases, recurring patterns, or workflow challenges to support model training and improvements.
- Contribute to Workflow Development: Support the creation of efficient tagging workflows and quality assurance best practices.

Post-Onboarding Activation Take full ownership of new merchants post-onboarding from the Merchant Acquisition Specialist.Ensure that QR placements, the acquiring channel(s), e.g. POS, PED, eCommerce, are setup, and collateral, whether in-person or online, are live and functioning.Define activation objectives with the merchant and deploy the relevant tools (e.g., vouchers, consumer incentives, capital pre qualification).Where applicable, migrate merchants from the free Basic plan to the paid Engagement Plan, with full access to loyalty and insight tools.2. Merchant Revenue Growth Identify up sell and cross-sell opportunities across the company's product stack, with a focus on acquiring new customers, repeat usage, and customer value.Tailor strategies based on merchant vertical, performance, and seasonality (e.g., campaigns, bundles, incentives, or paid plan migration).Proactively engage merchants who are dormant, under performing, or eligible for growth - reactivation is your responsibility. 3. Strategic Account Management Build deep relationships with store owners, managers, and operational staff to understand real-world needs and execute activation plans effectively.Conduct quarterly business reviews (QBRs) for top merchants, with data-driven insights, performance trends, and proposed growth plans.Be the single point of commercial escalation and accountability for your portfolio.4. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Regional Growth Activators to align merchant campaigns with in-store activations and regional events.Work with Operations and Product teams to resolve onboarding issues, merchant training gaps, or feature requests.Provide merchant feedback to the Head of Merchant Growth for continuous product and messaging improvement.5. QuickSights & Zoho Discipline Track and report merchant growth activity and product uptake weekly.Maintain updated merchant notes and next steps in QuickSights and Zoho. Forecast monthly growth targets by account and flag any churn risks for intervention.This company is a remote working organisation however, on occasion, employees might be required to get together at a chosen location.Preference will be given to candidates residing in Johannesburg North.
