Responsibilities As a Management Accountant, your key responsibilities will include:

  • General Ledger and Reconciliations:
    • Completing general ledger provision reconciliations on time and clearing reconciling items promptly.
  • Journal Management:
    • Preparing and ensuring accuracy of monthly accrual journals and other financial entries.
  • Expense Reporting:
    • Compiling and distributing monthly cost center expense reports with insightful commentary.
    • Preparing consolidated fixed and variable operating expense reports for monthly and board packs.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Preparing and consolidating fixed operating expense budgets and generating related reports.
  • Sales and Income Reporting:
    • Preparing Factory Shops income statements and monthly sales pack reports for various markets/divisions.
  • Cost Rate Tables:
    • Reviewing and maintaining selling expense cost rate tables to align with actual selling expenses.
  • Ad Hoc Reporting and Analysis:
    • Providing ad hoc financial reports and conducting analysis as required.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
    • Liaising with management to ensure open communication and the accuracy of work.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Maintaining a comprehensive and organized filing system.
Requirements
  • A B.Com or relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar role.
  • High proficiency in MS Excel and familiarity with tools like QlikView/QlikSense/NAV.

POSITION OBJECTIVES

  • Support the Group CFO and Financial Controller to ensure the integrity of financial systems and information, while ensuring that the Group Companies are compliant with all legislative requirements;
  • Produce timely, accurate management information for the Group and assist with the processing of data inputs for Group companies; and
  • This role also assists with amongst other things the preparation of key deliverables including the annual budget, operating and capital expenditure, monthly management reports, annual reports, and performance monitoring.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIY AREAS

Management Accounting and Reporting

  • Preparing appropriate, accurate, timely and relevant Management Accounts, within a pre-defined format for detailed review by the Financial Controller.
  • Review and analyze all inputs to the Pack. Provide variance analysis and commentary in support to the Management Information Pack, incorporating notes and updates as directed;
  • Continually adapt and improve management reports as agreed with the Financial Controller;
  • Perform key balance sheet and income statement reconciliation tasks, journal postings, monthly accruals, and provisions;
  • Address any inaccuracies or differences regarding the source data to ensure accuracy, quality, and completeness of all incoming data;
  • Working closely with a shared services transactional team to ensure all transactional records are appropriately maintained; accurate, up to date and processed in accordance with Group control guidelines.
  • Prepare the general ledger asset accounting functions;
  • Business analysis on specified areas including routine matters;
  • Produce ad-hoc management reports;
  • Other ad-hoc duties as prescribed by the Financial Controller to assist in achieving the Shared Services Finance Department objectives;
  • Participation in the Company’s year-end process and production of the Annual Financial Statements e.g. control of year-end cut-offs, ledger balancing, loan account and investment confirmations, account analysis and summaries, asset reporting and budget variance reporting;
  • Liaising with the auditors as required; and

Budgets and Planning

  • Assist the Financial Controller in providing support and advice to the Group in preparing forecasts and budgets within the prescribed timelines;
  • Liaise with management of the subsidiaries and associates on their performance against budget and provide financial advice on budget control and forecast outcomes; and
  • Participate in the CAPEX process.

Corporate Governance; Risk Management and Company Secretarial

  • Develop and manage financial systems and policies to ensure compliance with good corporate governance and legislation; and
  • Implement risk management and internal controls.

General

  • Formulate and implement processes and perform tasks to ensure overall tax compliance of the Group;
  • Managing daily banking and cash requirements for the Group;
  • Monthly Payroll Administration functions;
  • Provision of back-up support when other finance staff are on leave; and
  • Other duties as required by the Financial Controller.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS; COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE

Essential Skills

  • Substantial (Min 5 years) accounting experience in a busy, progressive, and tightly managed business;
  • Previous experience in handling international accounting preferably in a shared services environment;
  • Extensive experience of computerized accounting and reporting systems;
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS; and
  • Highly proficient Microsoft Office user with Advanced Excel skills

Qualifications And Experience

  • Tertiary qualification – Financial Management or Management Accounting Degree;
  • CIMA Qualification;

  • Demonstrated experience in a corporate reporting role; and
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of budgets and forecasts.

Budgeting & Costing

Deliver a budget for an area of the organisation or conduct complex analyses on budget progress in other areas of the organisation. Running staff lists to ensure each business unit / cost centres have the correct allocation. Budget system management. Assist heads with population of templates.
Liaise between key stakeholders in order to ensure that the budget is accurate and follows logic.
Provide instruction and answer questions relating to budget procedures. Identifies budget issues, provide alternative solutions, and resolve problems.
Manage the various budget iterations between heads and exco expectations.

Operational Compliance

Follow a range of mandatory procedures to ensure that work is carried out to the required quality standards and/or to ensure adherence to external regulatory codes and internal codes of conduct.

Insights and Reporting

Prepare and coordinate the completion of various financial reports.

Personal Capability Building

Keep abreast of laws and regulations that apply to this particular function or field of professional expertise, maintain up to date compliance.

Bachelor of Commerce, CIMA Qualification (Advantageous)

As a Management Accountant , you’ll collaborate closely with a portfolio of SMEs, managing end-to-end financial operations, addressing practical business challenges, and building strong client relationships while continuously developing technical and advisory expertise

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the full accounting lifecycle for a diverse portfolio of SME clients, ensuring precision, compliance, and timely financial reporting.
  • Accurately process monthly payroll via SimplePay, maintaining adherence to all regulatory and statutory payroll requirements.
  • Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE, Income Tax Returns (ITR), and Provisional Tax filings in strict accordance with SARS legislation.
  • Cultivate strong, trusted relationships with clients by delivering transparent financial insights and consistent support.
  • Resolve complex client accounting queries, drive bespoke financial solutions, and lead value-adding, ad hoc financial projects.
  • Deliver actionable financial insights to support budgeting, forecasting, and scalable business growth strategies.
  • Conduct comprehensive monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, accounts payable/receivable, and intercompany transactions.
  • Assist with drafting annual financial statements and coordinate effectively with auditors during review processes.
  • Ensure all accounting records and systems are maintained to the highest standards, aligned with best practices and regulations.
  • Monitor client cash flow performance and contribute to strategic financial planning and reviews.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with internal teams to provide a unified, high-quality service experience.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process optimisation, driving operational efficiency across internal systems and client engagements.
  • Stay informed on evolving tax laws and accounting standards to maintain compliance and deliver forward-thinking financial advice.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualified Professional Accountant or In-progress CIMA.
  • 3–5 years of experience in an accounting or finance-related role
  • Skilled in using Xero, Dext/Hubdoc, SimplePay, Dear Systems, and Vend
  • Proven track record in client-facing roles with excellent communication skills
  • Tech-savvy and enthusiastic about improving and streamlining accounting processes
  • Deeply motivated to help startups and small businesses thrive through meaningful financial support
  • R35 000 - R40 000 / month

Pepkor Lifestyle is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Management Accountant to join our
Corporate Finance Team. This position will report to the Corporate Financial Manager, but will also
provide finance support to other Heads of Departments as required.

Job Description

To take full control and responsibility for the accounting and reporting relating to Corporate Fixed
Assets, Capital Investment Projects, Group Insurance (claims & declarations), Corporate
Departmental Cost Budgets and Allocation Models.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide Finance Support to Corporate Department Manager – business justifications, budget queries, capital expenditure budgets and monitoring.
  2. Maintain and report on Corporate Fixed Assets – actual capex vs budgets, serial number asset tracking, deprecation rates & assets under construction.
  3. Monitor & review Insurance Claims Registers for completeness and assist with timeous resolution of insurance claims. Prepare annual insurance declarations for all countries.
  4. Perform and review Balance Sheet reconciliations pertaining to Insurance, Fixed Assets and other specified accounts.
  5. Analyse departmental Income Statements and provide reasons for variances.
  6. Manage Open Purchase orders to completing and accrue for any valid orders at month-end.
  7. Manage the accounting process relating to prepaid expenses.
  8. Populate and reconcile the various budgeting and forecasting templates.
  9. Assist in budgeting, forecasting and reporting. Prepare and update detailed schedules for each vendor per profit centre that will form the basis of the Corporate Budget.
  10. Identify and obtain relevant cost drivers to enable accurate allocation of Corporate and Retail Head Office Costs to Business Units.
  11. Support the Financial Manager during Internal & External Audits.
  12. Prepare the annual insurance declarations and coordinate reported and outstanding claims between the Business Units and Insurance Brokers.
  13. Assist with bookkeeping of Company Charity Initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Auditing
  • 5 - 7 years of relevant accounting experience preferred
  • SAICA/SAIPA Articles preferred, alternatively internship in Financial Departments at established companies
  • Previous retail or supply chain experience preferred
