BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The Tax & Accounting Team Leader would be responsible for various client matters and administrative details as well as supervision and training of Trainee Accountants.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesKEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Systems and Technology:
- DataGrows CRM is maintained with accuracy.
- Implement the latest technology to improve business practices.
- All employees are trained on systems and software throughout the business.
- Current systems are reviewed and improved.
- Employee Management:
- Ensure employees are aligned with the company goals through revision of all work attended to by Trainee Accountants.
- Confirm monthly that all the employee timesheets are updated and submitted correctly.
- Improve employees on their client relations and services.
- Ensure that all employees are trained and that their logbooks are updated.
- Improve and maintain a great company culture.
- Conduct feedback sessions and ensure employee wellbeing is looked after.
- Retaining Clients:
- Ensure client compliance relating to legislation.
- All retainer clients receive their Monthly Management Accounts.
- All client businesses receive a high value-added service from the company.
- Ensure minimal client complaints throughout the company.
- Business Operations:
- All accounting related tasks are completed from processing to AFS.
- Payroll tasks are attended to regularly.
- CIPC matters and other statutory functions are completed.
- PAYE, UIF, SDL and IRP5 Recon ( ) submissions are done within the set deadline.
- SARS E-filing (VAT, PAYE, Income tax).
- Attend to SARS matters and tax returns for individuals and companies.
- Manage company audits without any reviews.
- Ensure that all relevant processes and feedback are done on a regular basis.
- Align the focus of employees to the focus of the practice.
- Utilize and follow all other practice management tools with care.
- Degree: BCOM Accounting
- Completed SAIPA Articles
- SAIPA Registered

This organisation provides comprehensive financial planning and investment services, specialising in supporting clients in or approaching retirement. Its offerings include investment and portfolio management, offshore services, trustee and retirement planning, estate and tax services, as well as wills and unit trust administration. A new role has been created within the tax and accounting teams based in Rondebosch, focusing on trust tax and individual tax compliance for investment clients. The position is best suited to candidates with at least eight years' experience managing a client-focused tax practice. Permanent, hybrid, R60 000 - R80 000 for full-time or pro-rata for reduced hours.
Responsibilities:
Overall Tax and Accounting Services Compliance:
Review of legislative changes, and recommendation of changes in business operations, process flows and procedure, once approved at Exco, RCC, or Executive Board.
Key client allocation for family group with complex tax matters
Manage service level agreements and third party compliance requirements, where the client has sourced external tax and/ or accounting compliance services, where the organisation is the investment manager or Professional Trustee
Provide regular training and development opportunities for in-house team on statutory changes and development of relevance to business operations
Assist the advisory, and fiduciary operations in new business initiatives to secure new investment and fiduciary clientele for the business
Technical and Specialist queries:
Assist the advisory, fiduciary and consulting operations with specialist queries
Interface with tax specialist and brief tax attorney on tax dispute resolution measures
Management of team members, and accountable to Exco on operations reporting and risk management strategy, ensuring that team commitments and deliverables are met, and communication to clients and advisory and fiduciary team operations is timeously attended to
Back-up support for the team within the scope of the role, as required.
Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualification a necessity: B Com (Accounting) or B Com Honours in Taxation or similar
- Previous experience in managing a busy, client-focused tax practice
- Completed accounting or auditing articles preferred
- Computer literacy is a necessity: Including MS Excel (advanced) as well as relevant tax package knowledge and previous experience
- Previous experience in a similar function, with proven track record (8+ years) ,including appropriate tax practice management and related risk management experience
- Previous experience of bulk upload, managing data integrity controls and risks with third parties
- Fit and proper requirements all in order, and clear
- Registered Tax Advisor, or Tax Practitioner, and all professional credentials in order
- Ability to work independently, and meet deadlines, attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
- Clear credit and criminal check, valid, unendorsed drivers' licence and own vehicle are required

Minimum Requirements:
- Completed B Comm (Accounting) Honours plus Articles as a minimum.
- Taxation Diploma/qualification will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 4-5 years experience on the preparation of Financial statements, Audit packs, and financial analysis.
- Minimum 3-4 years experience in taxation calculations. Advanced knowledge of prescribed rates, laws, and taxation regulations.
- Advanced knowledge of VAT and PAYE, Preparation and submission of company tax and VAT returns.
- Handle periodic tax computations and payments, conduct tax research
- Management of full taxation function for the company, attending to queries and audits.
- Advanced knowledge of finance, accounting, and tax regulations.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Having worked as a team leader would be an advantage.
Responsibilities:
- Meet agreed goals with Business Unit Management.
- Prepare monthly, interim, and year-end financial reports, including Balance Sheets and income statements.
