As a Civil Engineering Technologist, you will be responsible for designing and overseeing the construction of various civil engineering projects, including roads, sewer systems, and stormwater drainage.
Responsibilities and Skills:

- Strong technical skills and able to manage projects from Conceptual to Detailed Design, Documentation, and Contract Administration of services for civil infrastructure projects including but not limited to:
- Municipal services i.e Earthworks, Stormwater Reticulation, Sewer Reticulation, Water Reticulation, platforms, and assessments
- Ensure all designs are checked and approved by the relevant manager prior to forwarding to the relevant client and contractor
- Performing due diligence on the impact and feasibility of new construction sites.
- The preparation of feasibility reports
- Attending meetings with clients and stakeholders as and when required
- Assist with the implementation of medium to large sized projects within technical standards, quality, budgets, and time frames.
- Ensure effectiveness, quality, and profitability of completed projects including project follow-up, to monitor project deliverables and client satisfaction levels
- Site supervision as and when required
- Contribute to the preparation of project reports and proficiency in technical report writing
- A working understanding of project finances and project budgets for medium to large scale projects
- Surveying new construction sites and assessing existing structures for upgrades
- Sound Project Management Skills - Liaise, co-operate, and provide required information to clients and stakeholders at various stages
- Preparation of estimates of construction costs (BOQs)
- Preparation of specifications and preambles for construction works (Colto / Coto / SANS / GCC etc.)
Requirements:
- Completed minimum B.Eng or BTech.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
- No less than 10 years experience in a similar position within a Consulting Engineering firm (pref)
- Proficient in design packages
- AutoCAD Civil 3D experience essential
- Technical knowledge of drawing and design processes
- Project Management experience is essential

The Civil Engineering Group Leader will be responsible for establishing, building, and growing a civil engineering team that will perform civil engineering design to support the projects performed by the company. The team will also perform quality assurance on civil engineering designs performed by external companies and provide procurement and construction support during project execution. The work procedures for the group will be developed in accordance with ISO 9000 and in line with the culture and procedures already developed for the existing disciplines. The responsibility also includes the development of business from clients where our client has engaged previously as well as potential new clients. The business unit is seen as a stand-alone profit center with full accountability for the success and growth of civil engineering across all branches.
The group leader will be responsible for quantifying the requirements and establishing term contracts with key clients. The group leader will oversee the productivity of the group in terms of finances, contract management, technical integrity, schedule, and customer service. The Group Leader will lead by example and ensure his contribution to the group is not only a financial asset but also carries the respect of his members. He will handle each situation in a calm and collected way without prejudice. The position is office-based in Secunda.
Requirements:
- Minimum of B Eng/BSc Eng degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of eight years’ relevant experience.
- Registration with ECSA as Professional Engineer (in good standing).
- Experience in detail engineering on multidisciplinary EPC/EPCM projects.
- Experience in detail design and engineering of civil structures and foundations in the petrochemical industry and alike, with hands-on experience or proper exposure to the manufacturing of own designs. Candidates should demonstrate their abilities by means of examples.

- Demonstrated knowledge, proficiency, application, and practical experience in Hydraulics, including:
- Application of mass flow, energy, and momentum principles in hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, pipe flow, open-channel flow, sediment transport, hydraulic design, hydraulic modelling, and water and wastewater treatment technologies at well-defined, broadly defined, and complex levels.
- Total life cycle costing and analyses of water supply systems, e.g., abstraction and diversion works, pump station selection and design, bulk water supply, and water reticulation networks.
- Analyses, design, construction, and management of sewer and stormwater systems.
- Design of hydraulic structures, e.g., culverts, bridges, weirs, and associated protection works.
- Software applications related to water engineering (hydraulics), e.g., AutoDesk (AutoCAD & Civil-3D), Civil Designer, HEC-RAS, EPANET, EPASWMM, and Aqua Hydraulics.
- Design codes/legislation: (i) National Water Act (36/1998), (ii) Water Services Act (108/1997), (iii) National Environmental Management Act (107/1998), (iv) SANS1200 A-N (Civil Eng. Works), (v) CSIR (Red Book: Neighbourhood Planning and Design Guide for Sustainable Human Settlements), and (vi) SANRAL (Drainage Manual).
AND/OR
- Demonstrated knowledge, proficiency, application, and practical experience in Hydrology, including:
- Surface hydrology, engineering (design) hydrology, geohydrology, water resources management and planning, hydrological statistics, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, and environmental engineering at well-defined, broadly defined, and complex levels.
- Hydrological data processing, e.g., evaluation, processing, and quality control of historical information and observed hydrological and/or meteorological data.
- Calibration of flow-gauging weirs and related hydraulic structures, inclusive of calibration techniques, velocity distributions, conventional current gaugings, velocity-index applications, and the development of rating and velocity distribution curves.
- Hydrological surveying, e.g., topographical, flood, stake-out, and as-built surveys.
- Design flood estimation and flood risk analyses, e.g., capacity analyses of drainage system infrastructure and the estimation of flood-line levels as part of the Stormwater Master Planning function.
