Job Description

The Total Reward Manager is a key member of the Human Resources team, responsible for managing the Reward and Benefits portfolio within the organisation. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of reward and benefits best practices, as well as the ability to analyse data and make informed decisions. The Total Reward Manager will work closely with the Reward Executive to develop and implement total rewards strategies that support the organization's goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Reward and Benefits:

  • Responsible for the execution of the reward strategy and implementation of the Reward framework and processes.
  • Provide technical and consultative assistance to HR business partners and line managers on the design, implementation and communication of reward programmes.
  • Guide and assist on the development and implementation of reward and benefit policies
  • Conduct market analysis and ensure that all reward programmes (such as pay structures, benefit plans, incentive schemes, etc) are competitive.
  • Responsible for the job evaluation process.
  • Ensure that remuneration structures are upheld and that there is consistency in application across the business.
  • Manage the Annual Review cycle from mandate preparation to complete execution of the annual review process.
  • Assist with salary proposals.
  • Recognition scheme implementation and management.
  • Understand and interpret statutory requirements and how these impact company benefits e.g. pension and provident funds, medical aids.

People Management:

  • Assign, supervise and review the work performance of subordinates.
  • Plan, organise, lead, and develop subordinates' work plans.
  • Promote teamwork, provide support, manage, and evaluate performance by creating and maintaining individual development plans and performance contracts for subordinates.
  • Develop and coach team members and subordinates.

Stakeholder Relations Management:

  • Manage relationships with vendors such as Benefit administrators.
  • Management of Risk from Internal and External Stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant legislation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • GRP qualification will be advantageous.
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree with at least 5-8 years’ experience in a dynamic reward environment.

    Bushveld Minerals Job Description

    Bushveld Minerals is a leading South African vanadium producer from its two operational assets, Vametco and Vanchem. Vanadium is a critical mineral in the steel industry and will be a key mineral in the Just Energy Transition. Future demand of Vanadium is predicted to increase dramatically, and the two assets have great potential to provide significant shareholder value by focusing on and addressing operational efficiencies.

    The purpose of this role is to provide specialist advice, expertise, coordination and analytical support for broad reward practices, processes, and systems to the corporate office and Bushveld Minerals operations.

    Duties & Responsibilities
    • Co-develop a clear remuneration philosophy and guiding principles for Bushveld in consultation with the Group Head HR Operations according to which EXCO can make informed remuneration and benefits decisions.
    • Execute relevant Reward Strategies and Tactical Plans to align reward practices across Bushveld and to ensure competitive market positions.
    • Conduct relevant annual market surveys and reports on market trends.
    • Perform clear remuneration and benefits benchmarks and report on both market and internal trends that will ensure fairness, market competitiveness and support the achievement of business objectives.
    • Conduct ad-hoc remuneration and benefit benchmarking/surveys as may be required.
    • Initiate and drive ad-hoc compensation and benefit projects and data audits to ensure compliance in all compensation, benefit and international assignee processes and procedures.
    • Analyse remuneration structures to identify parity issues as well as areas for improvement and propose appropriate solutions.
    • Perform internal parity analysis and propose remuneration packages for job offers, promotions and alignments when required.
    • Establish clear remuneration and benefits rules, procedures, and guidelines for Bushveld to enable good governance and effective decision making.
    • Add a compelling value proposition to all employees with regards to employee benefits plans, including Health Care, Retirement Plans and Occupational Risk cover.
    • Manage and maintain inventory of Company owned risk benefit and retirement schemes, coordination of data for annual renewals, payment of premiums and cost reallocations.
    • Analyse market data and make recommendations on salary scales, market positioning, pay structuring etc. to ensure internal parity, market competitiveness and to support the achievement of business objectives.
    • Provide guidance to Line Managers and HR Business Partners on reward matters.
    • Advise employees on the retirement plans queries and liaise with 3rd party on the medical aid plans.
    • Coordinate and govern the process of job grading to ensure consistency.
    • Comply with remuneration frameworks that effectively govern employee remuneration and benefit changes in accordance with legislation, the rules of the relevant Benefit Funds, Bushveld requirements, governing bodies such as SARS, FSB and any REMCO decisions.
    • Responsible for data analysis and reporting on remuneration and rewards projects.
    Desired Experience & Qualification
    • BCom/BTech Degree or National Diploma in Human resources or related fields.
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Remuneration and Benefit.
    • Computer literacy in MS Office & SAP or Similar ERP systems.
    • Reward Processes, including job evaluation, salary benchmarking and total reward analysis.
    • Understanding Reward in large complex multinational organisations.
    • Proven ability to work responsibly and proactively under own initiative.
    • Advanced Excel including Macro and Power Pivots.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Analytical Thinking & Attention to Detail (includes accuracy)
