You will lead external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, partnerships, and initiatives in support of these business objectives. You will be able to manage and drive complex projects, and provide clear and confident guidance, including in situations of high ambiguity. You will be a confident leader, but are also able to operate respectfully and collaboratively within wider regional and international structures.

The position is based in Cape Town.

Basic Qualifications

  • 15+ years of relevant public policy and advocacy experience, e.g. within corporate public policy and government relations, in public administration, trade associations or non-governmental organizations.
  • A keen working understanding of policy-making processes and government relations in South Africa.

The candidate must have a good understanding of the region's public policy challenges, political systems, institutions, and cultural landscape; and, solid networks and relationships with Sub-Saharan policy-makers, multilateral agencies, academia, and civil society stakeholders.

The SSA Government Relations and Public Policy Leader is part of the METAPSA GR team and is responsible for overseeing regional policy issues and crisis management across Sub-Saharan Africa. The role reports to the Deputy Director of Government Relations and Public Policy for the Middle East, Türkiye, Africa, Pakistan, and South Asia.

The candidate must bring experience in policy assessment, risk management, and proven leadership and organizational skills. Experience in a technology company is preferred. They should be a flexible problem-solver with strong communication skills, able to collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders. The role also requires the ability to work independently and with agility in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead TikTok's government relations and public policy strategy in Sub-Saharan Africa, ensuring alignment with regional regulations and policy frameworks on data protection, privacy, safety, IP, content policy, and other tech-relevant issues.

  • Build and maintain strategic, long-term relationships with governments, regulators, NGOs, academia, think tanks, and other key stakeholders across the region.

  • Actively identify and assess emerging policy issues and political/social trends, advising internal teams on risks and opportunities.

  • Develop and execute advocacy and engagement campaigns to advance TikTok's policy positions and strengthen its reputation across SSA.

  • Serve as a senior external representative of TikTok, clearly communicating policy positions and helping local communities better understand the platform.

Job Overview

The Citi Public Affairs Officer (PAO) is the guardian of Citi's reputation in the marketplace, covering all businesses for Citi in the East and South African region, based in South Africa. These countries include Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and South Africa.

The PAO will be responsible for coordinating and driving Citi's ESPA's efforts across the region. The PAO supports the country CCOs in preserving and enhancing the bank's image in the marketplace and provides the businesses with strategic and focused communications counsel in support of their growth objectives. The functional areas typically covered by the PAO include media relations; internal communications; community affairs including charitable grants, NGO relationship management and employee volunteering; branding; advertising and coordination of events and sponsorships.

As a member of the country coordinating committee, the PAO acts as counselor to each of the business heads, supporting them to execute their duties in such a way as to maintain and strengthen the bank's reputation amongst:

This will involve a familiarity with banking practices, products and policies; a solid record of successful communications campaigns; excellent written and oral communications skills; media management and crisis communications experience; capacity to work with people at all levels of seniority; interest in and enthusiasm to be part of a large, multinational corporation based in South Africa with all its commensurate opportunities and challenges.

  • Advise the Council on key aspects of housing in the Durban Metropolitan Area.
  • Formulate draft policy on housing aspects.
  • Review and update the Strategic Housing Framework for the Durban Metropolitan Area and Housing Assistance Programmes.
  • Provide input into the Metro Housing Unit business plan.
  • Ensure that all existing and new housing policies and programmes within the Durban Metropolitan Area are implemented, monitored, evaluated and reviewed.
  • Assist in the managing and running of the resource centre.
  • Collect and compile primary and secondary data required to facilitate the sustainable delivery of housing and establish data bases and a resource centre of such data.
  • Input data into GIS databank maintained by the Land Section.
  • Reviews and provides input into various forums on housing issues.
  • Assist in production of publications and mass communication.
  • Draft documents, reports, papers and workshop material for management and executive.
  • Co-ordinate with other councils/departments/units to ensure integration between housing policy / strategy and other sectoral policy.
  • Manages and directs the activities of the Research and Policy Section.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Social Sciences or Public Administration or Public Policy or any other related and equivalent qualification.
  • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
  • 5 years relevant experience of which 2 years must be at a supervisory level.
  • Computer Literacy.

Preferred Requirements

  • Post graduate qualification (NQF Level 8) in Social Sciences or Public Administration or Public Policy or any other related and equivalent qualifications.
  • 6 years relevant experience of which 3 years must be at a supervisory level.
