The role supports a key priority of the University with a focus on the complex needs of students with mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions (ADHD). The Nurse Practitioner will collaborate with the Accessibility Services Office and an inter-professional clinical team inclusive of psychiatry to launch a new integrated service and will develop linkages to establish a community of practice with CAMH, a key partner of the University’s mental health strategy.

Position SummaryThe Nurse Practitioner provides advanced mental health nursing care within the full scope of the role to optimize patient outcomes and ensure accessible, effective, and efficient health care for students. The NP collaborates with leaders, the interprofessional team, and university and cross-sector partners to support integrated care and student wellbeing. The NP uses best practices, measurement-based care, and evidence-based models to optimize outcomes. The NP supports development of innovative models of care that emphasize integration and collaboration, and provides assessment, counselling, and treatment interventions for students with a wide range of needs, including risk assessment and crisis management related to suicidal ideation or other high-risk situations. The NP performs medication management, clinical interventions, follow-up, referrals to internal and external resources, and case management for students with complex mental health, neurodevelopmental, and psycho-social conditions. All practice is performed in accordance with regulatory requirements, with emphasis on communication, documentation, privacy and confidentiality (PHIPA). Proficiency in electronic documentation and health-related applications is required; the NP is an independent practitioner, practicing to full scope in collaboration with physicians and colleagues.
ResponsibilitiesThe Nurse Practitioner will:
- Provide assessment, counselling and treatment interventions to students across a continuum of need, including high-risk presentations.
- Support medication management and clinical follow-up; coordinate referrals to internal and external resources; provide case management for complex cases.
- Collaborate with the inter-professional team, physicians, and cross-sector partners to support integrated care and student wellbeing.
- Contribute to the development and evaluation of the integrated service, including participation in program evaluation and reporting.
- Establish linkages to create a community of practice with CAMH and other partners.
- Adhere to professional and regulatory standards, ensuring high-quality communication, documentation, privacy, and confidentiality.
Education:
- Completion of a College of Nurses of Ontario Nurse Practitioner Program.
- Current College of Nurses of Ontario registration in the Extended Class.
Experience:
- Minimum 4 years of practical and/or related experience in mental health; primary care experience is an asset.
- Understanding of developmentally informed care with diverse transitional age youth in a post-secondary setting.
- Ability to work with colleagues and partners within a large institution and across sectors.
- Experience developing innovative models of care requiring flexibility in a high-reliability environment.
- Experience with measurement-based care, evidence-informed practice, and evaluation is an asset.
- Experience supporting and leading change initiatives to improve patient care.
Skills:
- Experience and comfort with electronic health records, Microsoft Suite, and related technologies.
- Strong assessment skills with the ability to diagnose.

The role you'll contribute:
The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner functions as a member of the medical care management team for physician practice patients (Cardiology). The ARNP may diagnose medical conditions, plan and implement treatment collaboratively agreed to in the Florida Hospital Physician Group medical staff delineation of clinical privileges for Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners. Depending on the practice, ARNP may be required to take practice call.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
· Provide services similar to those of a physician.
· Examine patients, take medical histories, maintain patient records, identify health risk factors, prescribe medications, make referrals and otherwise treat health conditions.
· Sees patients in the outpatient practice setting.
· Assists with in-office procedures with physician and or may perform minor procedures independently.
· Reads and interprets electrocardiograms.
· Interrogation and adjustment to pacemaker settings in collaboration with Cardiologist.
· Provide post-procedural follow-up care in the outpatient practice setting.
· Interpret, monitor and adjust anticoagulation therapy.
· Supervision of nuclear stress tests and treadmill stress tests in the outpatient practice setting.
· Will diagnose and treat in collaboration with the supervising Cardiologist, adult cardiovascular patients in addition to a variety of chronic health conditions including but not limited to diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia etc.
· Will follow care plans developed by/with supervising Cardiologist.
· Communicates with courtesy when interacting with internal or external patients and customers—in person or on the telephone.
· Exhibits respect for co-workers and develops positive working relationships within the practice and other departments.

· Will need to work weekdays and potentially take practice some evenings and weekends.

Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· MSN (Master's of Nursing)
· Minimum of 3 years' experience as a RN in the Cardiology setting
· Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
· Provides direct care with licensing credentials under the auspices of supervising MD.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
