A leading Chemistry lab is looking for a Production Systems & Digitalization Lead to join their team in Port Elizabeth . The ideal candidate will take ownership of all digital production systems within a high-performance manufacturing environment. This senior technical specialist will lead system stability, integration, and digital advancement projects, focusing on MES platforms, automation systems, and SAP-to-plant integrations. The position combines engineering, IT, and project leadership, contributing directly to the company’s digital transformation and innovation roadmap.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and maintain the production application and server landscape, including SQL/Oracle databases, MES, and automation systems

• Ensure long-term system performance, reliability, and cybersecurity

• Implement and administer MES platforms (e.g., Wonderware/AVEVA), SCADA systems, and historian databases

• Lead SAP-to-plant software integration projects, coordinating between departments and vendors

• Drive the digitization of manual processes and deploy custom digital tools using Microsoft Power Platform (PowerApps, Power Automate, Power BI)

• Promote data-driven decision-making through application-level analytics and reporting

• Lead and manage automation and application-related projects with full compliance to change control and MOC standards

• Implement cybersecurity measures, patch management, backup systems, and disaster recovery plans

• Drive cross-site technical standardization and participate in global digital forums and strategic initiatives

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechatronic, or Industrial) and/or Information Systems / Computer Science

• Minimum 10 years' experience in manufacturing, production IT, automation, or industrial digitalization

• Dual-discipline experience (engineering and IT) essential

• Hands-on experience with MES platforms (preferably Wonderware/AVEVA), SCADA, and historian systems

• Proven track record in leading SAP-related system integration and rollout projects

• Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (PowerApps, Power BI, Power Automate)

• Knowledge of cybersecurity in industrial systems, MOC governance, and IT auditing practices

• Strong technical communication, independent work ethic, and ability to manage long-cycle projects

An opportunity for an experienced Proposals Engineer is required for permanent employment based in Richards Bay. The Proposal Engineer will assist the Key Account Managers in preparing proposals and cost estimations for new projects, equipment upgrades and modernisation, technical services, major equipment repairs, customer liaison, marketing and business sales strategy for Aluminium smelters. This role may require travel to customer sites.

Proposals

• Receive tenders / RFQ specifications.
• Liaise with external suppliers, prepare high quality scopes of work, submit RFQ to suppliers, review, and adjudicate proposals received.
• Monitor, respect and adhere to the tender deadlines.
• Communicate with the head office to request engineering and/or material quotations.
• Draft project proposals for review with the Key Account and Proposal Manager for approval.
• Draft the commercial estimation and review with the Key Account Manager for approval.
• Follow up the client evaluation process until order placement.
• Accountable for compiling the project handovers when an order is received.
• Attend close-out meetings at the end of projects to optimise future proposals.
• Support repairs business with proposal reviews, bills of material, scopes of work where needed.
• Interpret technical manuals, parts lists, bills of material and installation manuals for equipment, to aid in the building of proposals.
• Occasional site inspections to be made to aid in the understanding and scoping of jobs.
• With the Key Account Manager, review request for quotation for equipment repairs.
• Align customer’s request with cost effective, technical, and operational requirements for repair work.
• Contribute to the timeous and efficient preparation of the repair costings, liaise with Key Account Manager for sales strategy.

• South African Grade 12 / Matric is required.
• Tertiary Qualification (at least N.Dip. level) in either mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering fields.

Relevant Experience

• Project costing or similar estimating experience is essential.
• Supply Chain / Purchasing experience will be beneficial.
• Knowledge of project management principles is advantageous.
• Knowledge of heavy industrial equipment repair and modifications is advantageous.
