Job PurposeTo provide accurate and timely economic intelligence as well as original; useful analysis and economic forecasting for Nedbank's internal and external stakeholders in order to support strategic decision-making; and to raise the bank's profile through an effective presence in the media.
Job Responsibilities- Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships by providing input at meetings; as well as regular communication; formal presentations; and media comments.
- Build trusting professional relationships by sharing knowledge; meeting deadlines; providing quality; timely information and contributing to consistent workflow.
- Develop collaborative relationships as a bank spokesperson; providing expert viewpoints and working as part of various project teams.
- Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals by participating in Nedbank culture-building initiatives (e.g. staff surveys etc).
- Participate and support corporate responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy (e.g. Green Strategy).

- Contribute to Nedbank's financial planning process by providing economic forecasts and strategic advice and direction.
- Provide historic data and economic intelligence and analysis by reading widely; gathering; distilling and analysing data; building models and preparing reports.
- Update and manage databases by extracting and linking data from external database services and sourcing and manually updating files.
- Provide appropriate resolution for tasks and unmet deadlines by planning; preparing in advance and taking corrective action.
- Ensure personal quality and productivity standards are met by conducting self; peer and line manager reviews; using credible sources of information and checking publications with Nedbank Editorial Services.
- Adapt to change by reading widely; continuous learning; adjusting models; obtaining and updating software and by becoming a change agent.
- Ensure compliance by following regulations; policies and procedures; keeping up to date through training; and escalating risk-related matters.

Role Responsibilities

Research Planning and Direction: Conduct research into companies and financial market pricing by sourcing information from business / investments magazines, networks and the internet in order to understand the factors which influence prices.
Research Feedback: Co-ordinate multiple, concurrent research projects and produce reports for various stakeholders when required regarding varied projects.
Stakeholder engagement: Establish and manage relationships with both internal and external sources of information/industry role players and clients in order to source relevant information
Data: Forecasts, analyses and documents economic conditions affecting industry and/or business groups of an organization. Performs modelling including decision trees and calculations, extracts data from literature and primary sources to prepare and present to management. Provides economic information based on research to all divisions of the organisation. Responsibilities include general economic research on domestic/international developments using econometric techniques and models. Reports on fundamental and cyclical aspects of the domestic/international economy to management and clients. May supervise and manage less experienced economists in the division.
Requirement:
- At least a Master's Degree in Agricultural Economics (Mcom or Msc)
- Experience at least 5 - 8 years as Economist
- Writing skills - mastery (would be advantage if it is in Afrikaans and English)

Key Accountabilities
The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, amongst others, include to:
- Assist with the gathering of evidence and rigorous economic analysis of competition cases under investigation along with the drafting of investigation reports within the cartels, market conduct and mergers divisions.
- Assist with the drafting of expert economic reports filed with the Competition Tribunal on competition cases in litigation.
- Assistance to the expert economist and legal teams for cases in litigation before the Competition Tribunal, including rebuttal evidence and cross-examination of witnesses.
- Contribute to and lead economic research in support of the Commission’s strategy including research on specific sectors or competition issues, scoping of market inquiries, monitoring economic concentration, identification of barriers to entry and expansion, identifying the underlying causes of the high cost of living and key developments in other jurisdictions. < ul>
- Contribute to and lead research into the proactive initiation of competition complaints /ul>
- Contribute to and lead research into regional, continental and international cross-border competition issues
- Contribute to the provision of the theoretical and intellectual platform for the effective implementation of the Competition Act, including the drafting of guidelines.
- Assist in preparing an address to various Industry forums with respect to the economic implications of decisions taken on specific cases, participating in the meetings as appropriate.
