This Position reports to:
Global Trade Compliance Officer
Your Role And Responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to ensure that local businesses in assigned areas conduct their activities in line with ABB trade policies and guidelines and to implement ABB's Global Trade Program. Each day, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with import/export-related trade regulations at a local level. You will also showcase your expertise by creating, documenting, and maintaining procedures and guidelines for export control and sanctions, as well as customs compliance requirements.
The work model for the role is: Hybrid
This role is contributing to the Finance Division in SSA Region
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Providing periodic updates to the relevant stakeholders on the status of the local implementation of ABB’s Global Trade Program and significant changes in export control and customs laws/regulations.
- Implementing and maintaining a general export control and customs compliance awareness program for local business staff and providing trade-related training to employees (particularly in cases of delegated export control responsibilities).
- Facilitating seamless connection between trade compliance and day-to-day operations, including master data requirements, supplier qualifications, etc., in collaboration with staff in the assigned area.
- Conducting local trade reviews and/or annual “self-audits” with respect to trade compliance, identifying improvement areas, and taking corrective actions.

Qualifications For The Role
- Bachelor’s or Honour’s Degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Economics or Related Field
- Over 5 years of comprehensive professional experience, including more than 3 years specializing in Trade Compliance mainly export controls, with deep expertise in regional regulatory frameworks—ranging from local customs regulations to international export controls and sanctions compliance.
- Strong export controls knowledge (Required)
- Experienced in Free Trade Agreements and classifications under the World Customs Organization (WCO) Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
- Familiar with the US Export Administration Regulations and the global sanctions framework, including EU and U.S. sanctions and embargo programs.
- Knowledge of Global Trade Management systems (active use of SAP-GTS)
- Certified Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) is a plus

The Global Trade Specialist will be responsible for overseeing all of South Africa’s import and export operations at our IDEXX distribution hub in South Africa. Acting as the primary point of contact for all import and export activities and processes.
This position is to be based in ZA and is essential and critical to our IDEXX’s success in the South Africa, Sub-Saharan and Indian Ocean region supply chain.
In this role you will:
Oversee Import shipments into ZA and ensure smooth flow of products into ZA:
Review inbound documentation and order set-up
Work on SOPs with Customs Broker
Build KPIs for customs Broker
Collaborate with internal IDEXX (regions, transportation, planning, LOBs, international shipping teams) to be conduit into ZA.
Build audit/monitoring program for ZA imports
Review processes against best practices and any available IDEXX ZA programs
Focus on real-time solutions, process changes, compliance and efficiency
Oversee Export shipments (25+ countries) from ZA and ensure smooth flow of products from ZA:
Generate GTS/SAP Commercial Invoice (CI) for ZA exports. Troubleshoot any GTS CI issues (changes and additions)
Review outbound documentation and order set-up
Work on SOPs and KPIs with export declaration filer for export declarations
Collaborate with internal IDEXX (regions, transportation, planning, LOBs, regional import teams, Finance/Accounting, Regulatory Affairs and Product Compliance) to be conduit to ZA.
Build audit/monitoring program for ZA exports
Review processes against best practices and any available IDEXX ZA programs
Focus on real-time solutions, process changes, compliance and efficiency
Awareness of activities that impact ZA imports/exports such as: country of origin, valuation, tariff codes, import/export regulations, GTS, overages/shortages, recordkeeping, permits, incoterms and documentation, quality log.
Awareness on IDEXX’s international shipment structures, drop shipments, products, pricing procedures and item categories.
Strong usage of SAP and GTS to align with shipments and valuations.
Strong knowledge of international trade fundamentals.
Awareness of changes in ZA and region that would impact imports/exports from ZA.
Manage project as assigned, includes UAT testing for upcoming GTS to E4H Hanna migration
Manage documentation for returns processes to and from ZA.
Maintain external relationships forwarders, distributors, ZA customs, various gov’t agencies, brokers and customers for the region.
Responsible for tasks assigned for broader Global Trade work in various non-South Africa, Sub-Saharan and Indian Ocean regions.

EDUCATION :
College graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
EXPERIENCE :
At least 5 years of working experience in a related field, solid understanding of supply chain principles and practices.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Willing to learn and curiosity about IDEXX business
Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders across internal teams and external partners.
Proactive and resourceful, with a positive attitude and the ability to take initiative.
Resilient and capable of performing effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Detail oriented, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in SAP, with expertise in resolving issues related to SAP/GTS.
Proficient in computer skills, including MS Office applications.

Occasional travel within region might be required.

Role overview :
