RPO Recruitment's client, a prominent and well established company in South Africa is currently on the lookout for an experienced and driven Electrical Design Engineer who will be able to lead the electrical design and design coordination for large-scale renewable energy projects, including solar PV, wind energy, LV/MV electrical reticulation networks and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Requirements:
- BSc/BEng degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience in electrical design, with a strong track record in infrastructure projects
- Proven experience with grid-tied solar PV, wind farm electrical design
- Deep understanding of MV/HV substation and overhead line design
- Strong knowledge of SANS, IEC, and local grid code compliance
- Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, DIgSILENT, PVSyst, Helioscope)
- Registered or eligible for registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer
- Strong leadership, communication, and project coordination skills

Responsibilities :
- Project Development:
- Review and approve technical documents for environmental approvals, project appeals, and site selection.
- Conduct and report on site visits.
- Perform technical due diligence on prospective project acquisitions.

- Develop and review yield and cost estimations.
- Contribute to writing technical methods and procedures.
- Bid Preparations and Project Closing:

- Define performance metrics and lead renewables forecasting trials.

Requirements :
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or Computer Sciences (Master's and PhD beneficial).
- Minimum five years' experience in the Renewables Energy industry.
- Experience with Homer, Plexos, Pypsa, or similar optimization tools.
- Strong technical understanding of batteries and hybrid projects.
- Proficiency in Python and MS 365 Office.
- Knowledge of Windpro, Autocad, Pvsyst, and other relevant software (desirable).
- Statistical or data science background (preferred).
- Willingness to travel and valid driver’s license.
- Strong prioritization, time management, and stress management skills.
- Discretion, confidentiality, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent documentation skills in English and ability to mentor junior team members.
- Proven leadership in managing tasks from start to finish.
- Strong communication skills in English; additional local languages are advantageous.
