Job Description

The Performance Management Consultant contributes to the designing, and implementation, of the performance management framework, processes, and tools that drive individual and organizational effectiveness. This role partners closely with HR, business partners, and employees to ensure performance management practices are aligned with strategic goals and foster a culture of continuous feedback, accountability, and development.

Key Result Areas

Performance Framework Design:

  • Provide input into performance management frameworks, processes, and KPIs that align with organizational strategy and support a high-performance culture.

Process Implementation & Support:

  • Assist with leading the end-to-end implementation of performance management cycles (goal setting, mid-year and year-end reviews, calibration sessions, etc.).
  • Test for consistent application of performance standards and processes across all organizational levels and departments

Analytics & Reporting:

  • Analyze performance data to identify trends, gaps, and enhancement opportunities. Support on delivering analytical reports that enable leadership to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement efforts.

Training, Communication and Change:

  • Contribute to the design and delivery of training sessions and supporting resources on performance management best practices. Support clear and consistent communication of related processes and timelines.
  • Provide group guidance and coaching to managers and employees on setting objectives, delivering feedback, managing underperformance, and conducting reviews.
  • Support change management efforts to embed a performance-oriented mindset across the organization
  • Build effective working relationships within the internal client organization, delivering high-quality professional services with guidance from senior colleagues

System Optimization:

  • Collaborate with HRIS or IT teams to optimize digital performance management tools and platforms, ensuring usability and data integrity.

Requirements: Skills, Qualifications and Experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in HR or consulting roles with a strong focus on performance management.
  • Experience in contributing to the design and implementation of performance frameworks in complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of performance management methodologies (e.g., OKRs, SMART goals, 9-box, balanced scorecard).
  • Data analysis experience would be advantageous
  • Excellent facilitation, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in HRIS and performance management tools (Workday).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Business Strategy Translation and Alignment:
    • Conduct ongoing environmental scanning to inform portfolio positioning and recommend responsive strategies.
    • Conduct detailed market/sector analyses to anticipate shifts, opportunities, emergent threats, and areas of profitable growth for the Bancassurance and Telecommunication portfolio.
    • Co-develop and evolve business strategies in direct response to industry trends, market changes, regulatory shifts, and competitor activity in both bancassurance and telecommunications.
    • Identify white-space opportunities in both industries and develop business cases for entry, partnership, or innovation.
    • Facilitate a timely, focused, and value-driven strategic planning processes specific to the portfolio.

    • Break down the portfolio strategy into business models, projects, and initiatives, ensuring a clear line of sight to commercial targets and objectives.
    • Define, track, and adjust key performance indicators (KPIs), including financial, market share, innovation, and customer metrics.
    • Drive a data-driven approach to strategic decision-making, leveraging BI, analytics, and reporting tools.
    • Oversee regular strategic review meetings, leading performance dialogues and facilitating decisions on corrective actions.
    • Analyze, review, and advise on existing strategies, pivoting as needed to remain competitive in both sectors.
    • Continuously identify and drive innovation, leveraging emerging technologies or business models to differentiate the portfolio.
    Operational Excellence:
    • Act as a focal point for operational activities, ensuring the seamless execution of day-to-day business functions across the portfolio.
    • Oversee and optimize business processes, identifying and addressing inefficiencies or bottlenecks.
    • Coordinate cross-functional projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with larger organizational goals.

    Strategic Portfolio Management:

    Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
    • Act as a liaison between the executive office and internal/external stakeholders.
    • Manage relationships with key partners, customers, and regulatory authorities.
    • Ensure effective internal communication across departments regarding strategic priorities, goals, and business updates.
    • Represent the executive or portfolio at key internal and external meetings as required
    • Provide insights and updates to senior management on business integration efforts

    REQUIRED SKILLS

    Our client is a highly regarded Boutique Asset Management company based in Cape Town – due to a restructuring and reengineering process they now have the requirement for a skilled and experienced Risk & Performance Analyst, this new role will comprise the following job duties.

    1. Performance Measurement & Attribution | Oversee theend-to-endperformancecalculation and reporting process.

    Objective: To calculate and explain portfolio returns accurately and provide attribution insights that help portfolio managers and clients understand the sources of performance.

    Key Processes:

    • Daily NAV, return reconciliation and validation: Reconcile and verify returns across mandates, ensuring alignment with fund administrators and internal systems.
    • Performance attribution: Conduct both top-down (asset allocation, sector, region) and bottom-up (security selection) attribution across equity, fixed income, and multi-asset portfolios.
    • Benchmark alignment: Maintain benchmark data and ensure accurate benchmarking for relative performance reporting.
    • GIPS compliance: Assist in maintaining compliance with Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS) and support audit processes as needed.
    • Enhance performancemodels, tools, and automation processes to improve efficiency.
    1. Independent Risk Management Function | Risk Management & Monitoring

    Objective: To identify, measure, monitor, and report portfolio risks across strategies in a manner that supports both regulatory and investment team requirements.

    Key Processes:

    • Risk modelling: Run risk models to evaluate ex-ante (forward-looking) and ex-post (historical) risk metrics such as tracking error, VaR, beta, and volatility.
    • Scenario & stress testing: Simulate portfolio outcomes under various macro and market shock scenarios (interest rate shifts, FX movements, etc.).
    • Limit monitoring: Track adherence to client-mandated and regulatory constraints (e.g., issuer limits, sector caps, Reg 28 compliance).
    • Liquidity risk monitoring: Assess portfolio liquidity profiles and highlight risks associated with redemptions or market dislocation.
    1. Reporting & Insights

    Objective: To deliver clear and value-adding reporting to internal stakeholders and clients.

    Key Processes:

    • Client reports: Prepare monthly/quarterly performance and risk reports tailored for consultants, institutional clients, and retail platforms.
    • Board and EXCO support: Provide analytical support and dashboards for internal governance bodies and investment committees.
    • Investment team interface: Work closely with portfolio managers to provide analytical insights that support portfolio construction and decision-making.
