  • Involve in the solution lifecycle: prioritizing, designing, testing, implementing, and validating solutions.
  • Evaluate solutions against business cases to ensure benefits are realized.
  • Set the team's intellectual agenda and create conceptual frameworks across projects.

  • Build and manage partnerships with external experts or providers for BI project delivery.

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining the BI repository.

Education :

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • Experience :

  • 6+ years in business intelligence, data analytics, or related field.
  • 2+ years in a managerial or team lead role with direct reports.
  • Proven success in leading BI projects from start to finish.
  • Technical Skills :

  • Advanced SQL and/or SAS proficiency (T-SQL, PL/SQL, or equivalent).
  • Expertise in Power BI (DAX, Power Query, data modeling).
  • Experience with Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate).
  • Knowledge of data integration tools and ETL processes (SSIS, Ab Initio).
  • Understanding of data warehousing and dimensional modeling.
  • Power BI and Microsoft SQL Server certifications are advantageous.
  • Exposure to Teradata is advantageous.

    What will make you successful in this role?
    • Provide timeous and accurate data and analysis as required
    • Drive various process automations and efficiencies within Management Information. Data acquisition and preparation – acquiring data from various data sources; assessing the integrity and relevance of the data before combining and transforming it into interpretable datasets, reports, and dashboards.
    • Generating and distributing accurate reporting on a monthly and ad-hoc basis
    • Conduct a gap analysis of the current data landscape with Operations and formulate an improvement strategy.
    • Responsible for implementation of information solutions to address business needs and driving opportunities to improve processes and strategies with technology solutions. Track and measure against improvement strategy.
    • Engagement with IT – Management Information (MI) to ensure continuous improvement of both the processes and systems as required.
    • Providing advice, solutions and resolving complex information queries.
    • To monitor and provide advice, solutions and resolve problems relating to systems.
    • Analyse and interpret data patterns and business trends to provide actionable insights for Operations.
    • Analyse and build statistical models for various sets of data on a regular basis to assist in determining business trends.
    • Data quality control and data management.
    • Develop automated reporting within current constraints, given data programming knowledge. Creates relationships between business areas, enabling a better understanding of data and reporting. Sets a standard of reporting used across all business areas units built on sustainable solutions developed in conjunction with Data Architecture, MI/BI and Data Products.
    • Validate, Collaborate & Research - Continuously explore ways to enhance business insights by analysing key profit / cost / process efficiency drivers, key indicators, relationships, and trends. Develop a thorough knowledge of products, systems, platforms and related reporting.
    • Analytical Insights and Data Visualisation – Analyse and interpret complex data, identify trends and assess possible high risk exposure areas indicating key/emerging themes.
    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
    • Minimum 5 years’ data management experience i.e; Data Analysis, Data Visualisation and Reporting
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing the BU portfolio and delivering solutions to the respective BU’s
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience of leading a team of technical specialists
    • 3-5 years of experience in Financial Services with experience in underwriting and analysis (Short Term Insurance preferably)
    • Experience in reporting packages and data analytics tools: SAS, SQL, Cognos, Qlikview, Qliksense, SAP Business Objects, Power BI and Advanced Excel
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Intelligence, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science or a related field

    The Head of Data Management will lead the development, implementation and management of the bank’s data strategy. This role is accountable for ensuring data integrity, availability, and security while supporting business objectives.     • Identify and mitigate risks related to data management, including data breaches and unauthorized access.
    • Ensure data management practices align with the bank’s risk management framework.

    Innovation and Continuous Improvement

    • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in data management.
    • Continuously improve data management practices and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Drive innovation in data usage, including the implementation of advanced analytics and AI-driven insights.

    Data Lifecycle management and Metadata management

    • Ensure policies, processes and standards exist for data lifecycle management (i.e. Management of data from creation to deletion) and for metadata management
    • Ensure metadata is up-to-date and accessible

    Master Data Management

    • Ensure policies, processes and standards exist for master data management
    • Drive the centralization of key data (like customer information and product data) and ensure it is consistent across the bank.

    Data Integration

    • Ensure that data required to provide BI is combined from different sources to provide a unified view for Analytics team to utilize.
    • Focus areas to achieve this include ETL processes, provision of data lakes, APIs and data synchronization between systems.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Completed a Post B-Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, Engineering or related field (NQF8)
    • Completed or studying towards a master’s qualification
    • At least 10 years’ experience in implementing and managing a data management function
    • + 5 years banking or financial industry experience
    • Proven track record of developing and implementing data management strategies and governance frameworks.
    • Strong understanding of data management tools and technologies (e.g., SQL, ETL processes, data lakes, cloud platforms).
    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to data management and privacy.
    • Proficiency in data analytics and business intelligence tools.
    • Strong understanding and experience with data architecture design, data warehousing, and data integration.
    • Understanding of business operations and banking industry
