Duties & Responsibilities

In order to be considered, the following is required:

  • Degree in Information Technology Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, Commerce or similar
  • Latest ITIL and/or COBIT certification (advantageous)
  • 5 years of product or technology experience (advantageous)
  • 4 years’ experience with the design and implementation of product roadmaps
  • 3 years cloud technology big data experience
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment with competing demands, multiple partners, networked teams, and evolving needs

Responsibilities:

The Business Intelligence Development Manager leads the BI development function within Santam Client Solutions, ensuring that business data needs are effectively translated into scalable, insightful, and well-maintained data products. This role is pivotal in driving the maturity of the BI capability by leveraging modern BI tools (such as Power BI, Microsoft Fabric and snowflake), strengthening relationships with central IT partners, and contributing to the evolution of Santam’s future cloud data architecture.

  • Lead the design, build, and maintenance of data models and reporting assets within the Power BI ecosystem.
  • Oversee the BI team's day-to-day activities, ensuring the timely delivery of development work and the resolution of incidents and support queries.
  • Act as the bridge between Business Analyst (BA) teams and the BI team to ensure clear understanding of requirements, strong technical solutioning , documentation, and alignment to business needs.
  • Drive the adoption and optimization of Powerbi and other modern BI technologies to enhance delivery efficiency and innovation.
  • Manage development cycles from initial design to deployment, ensuring project documentation and adherence to governance and best practices.
  • Maintain a central library of standardized calculations and ensure consistency across all reporting assets.
  • Collaborate with the Central IT partners, Analytics, and Data Governance teams to align on priorities, streamline delivery, and embed best practices.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field.
  • 5+ years in data development, BI, or data engineering, with at least 2 years in a team leadership or managerial role.
  • Proven experience with Power BI, DAX, SQL, and modern BI development practices.
  • Exposure to or experience with Microsoft Fabric is a strong advantage.
  • Exposure to or experience in Short Term Insurance environment.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate business problems into scalable data solutions.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and team leadership skills.
  • Experience working within a federated data model and coordinating with enterprise IT and architecture teams is a plus.

  • Ability to work analytically in a problem solving environment
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Mathematics, Computer Science
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in particular when communicating independently with stakeholders

Your role will include the following:-

  • Collaborating closely with key business stakeholders to analyse their requirements
  • Delivering metrics and reporting tools
  • Using your strong programming skills to create interactive dashboards and data visualizations
  • Providing consultative industry leading solutions to our client
  • Working on multiple cross functional projects with a large, diverse operational analytics team
