My Client in the Agricultural Industry is looking for a Senior Agronomist to join their team in the Northern Region of RSA (Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo) Minimum Requirements :

  • Relevant agricultural qualification (Degree / Diploma in Agronomy, Agriculture or related field)
  • At least 3 years of general agricultural experience
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
  • Must be willing to travel extensively across the northern regions of South Africa (Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo)
  • Knowledge of fertilizer application and recommendations
  • Strong communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration

Duties :

  • Provide agronomic support and advice to farmers in the northern regions of South Africa
  • Conduct field visits to monitor crop performance and recommend improvements
  • Advise clients on fertilizer requirements and proper application methods
  • Conduct soil and crop analysis to determine fertilizer and other input needs
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations and reports to clients
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients to promote company services
  • Work closely with the international team, particularly the head office in Israel, to ensure alignment on best practices and strategies
  • Stay updated with the latest agronomy trends and practices for effective problem-solving
  • Provide training and guidance to farmers on new agricultural techniques and technologies

A market leader in agrochemical products is seeking an Agronomist to be responsible for growing the agriculture business by providing agronomic, technical, sales, and marketing support on crop fertilisation to clients, with the aim of increasing the sustainable profitability of customers through the use of technology that enhances efficiencies.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Must have a B. Sc. (Agric) with Soil Science, Agronomy, Horticulture or Plant Science
  • Master’s degree in Agriculture will be advantageous
  • Familiarity with agricultural practices and/or fertiliser products is essential
  • Experience in and knowledge of permanent crops (Macadamia Nuts, Avocado’s etc.) or seasonal crops (Sugarcane, Maize, Wheat, Barley etc.)
  • Irrigation and hydroponic farming background will be of advantage
  • Sound knowledge of fertiliser and chemical products with the ability to provide fertilisation recommendations
  • Must have a good grasp of the concepts of “client needs” and “adding value” in an agricultural context
  • Knowledge of the key differences, requirements and specifications of permanent and seasoned crops
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook
  • Must have strong report writing and presentation skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with problem-solving abilities, and excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills
  • Must have a valid driver's license

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing professional fertilisation and agronomic advice to farming enterprises.

  • BSc Agriculture Degree, specializing in Agronomy, with Agricultural Economy as a major subject.
  • Practical experience in farming will be to the applicants advantage.
  • Computer literacy i.e., MS Word and Excel and experience in computerized accounting packages e.g. SAP system.
  • Create and maintain excellent relationships between the company and important service providers, the producers of seed and other relevant resources, and to promote the production of these resources.
  • Supply support and solutions to the producers to ensure that their business or enterprise is running as efficiently and effectively as possible.
  • Ensure that the producers sell their product to the company.
  • Research and keep up to date regarding commodities produced, production methods, market tendencies, opportunities, developments and new trends in the agricultural sector.
  • Facilitate and coordinate the flow of resources (mostly canola and maize germ) between the suppliers/producers and the company.
  • Ensure that all storage, loading and offloading equipment are regularly checked and serviced to ensure optimal performance and meets the food and safety standards of the company.
  • Ensure that the products are stored per procedure of the company
  • Inventory control of the seed and meal is a key focus and deviations will be reported daily to the Agricultural Resource Manager.
  • Ensure that the seed, oil and meal that are being loaded or offloaded meets the quality standards of the company.
  • Ensure that all trucks (seed, oil and meal) are loaded and offloaded according to the load sheets and that all relevant documents are completed.
  • Take ownership of the premises housekeeping and cleaning according to food safety standards, routine inspections and reporting of non-conformance in this regard to the food safety team.
  • Arrange for effective waste removal.
