About the Role Our client, a leading international freight and logistics company with a significant presence in George , Western Cape, is seeking an experienced Senior Freight Forwarder to manage complex international shipping operations. This role demands a deep understanding of global trade, customs regulations, and various modes of transport (air, sea, road). The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating shipments, ensuring seamless transit, and providing exceptional service to a diverse clientele. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and manage international shipments via air, sea, and road freight.
- Coordinate with overseas partners, airlines, shipping lines, and customs brokers to ensure timely and efficient cargo movement.
- Prepare and process all necessary shipping documentation, including bills of lading, customs declarations, and import/export permits.
- Calculate and negotiate freight rates, ensuring cost-effectiveness and competitiveness.
- Track and trace shipments, providing clients with regular updates on cargo status.
- Resolve any issues or discrepancies that arise during transit, including customs clearance delays or damage claims.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their specific shipping needs and offering tailored solutions.
- Ensure compliance with all international trade laws, customs regulations, and safety standards.
- Identify opportunities to optimize shipping processes and improve service levels.
- Supervise and mentor junior freight forwarding staff as needed.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in freight forwarding, with a strong focus on international shipments.
- In-depth knowledge of international trade regulations, Incoterms, and customs procedures in multiple countries.
- Proven experience managing air, sea, and road freight operations.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with international partners and clients.
- Proficiency in freight forwarding software and relevant IT systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a deadline-driven environment.
- A relevant qualification in logistics, supply chain management, or international trade is advantageous.
- Understanding of the George and wider Western Cape business landscape is a plus.
