About the Role Our client, a major player in the heavy industrial sector, is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in Industrial Automation to join their team in **Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal**. This is a critical on-site role focused on the design, implementation, and optimization of automation systems for manufacturing and processing plants. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of complex electrical and control systems. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial networking.   • Design and develop electrical control systems, including PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), HMI development, and SCADA system integration.
  • Specify and select industrial automation components, sensors, actuators, and drives.
  • Develop and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical and automation system issues, implementing timely and effective solutions.
  • Perform site visits for installation supervision, commissioning, and performance testing of automation systems.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, production staff, and management to understand operational requirements and implement automation solutions.
  • Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant electrical codes, safety standards, and client specifications.
  • Implement and maintain industrial network configurations (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profibus).
  • Participate in process hazard analyses (PHAs) and ensure automation safety integrity.
  • Develop and deliver training to operations and maintenance personnel on new automation systems.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial automation engineering.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell RSLogix/Studio 5000).
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA software (e.g., WinCC, FactoryTalk View).
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical components, motors, drives, and control panels.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols.
  • Understanding of functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508/61511).
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical and P&ID drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively on-site.
