About the Role Our client, a rapidly expanding international tech company, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Remote Employment Law Specialist to join their legal team. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within South Africa. You will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with employment laws across various jurisdictions, advising on employee relations, drafting policies, and managing HR-related legal matters. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of South African labour law and a proactive approach to mitigating legal risks in a globalized, remote-first work environment. This role is critical for supporting our growing workforce and maintaining a compliant and ethical workplace culture, regardless of location. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice on all aspects of employment law, including recruitment, hiring, termination, discrimination, and wage and hour issues.
- Develop, review, and update employment contracts, company policies, and employee handbooks to ensure compliance with national and international regulations.
- Manage and resolve employee grievances, disputes, and disciplinary proceedings.
- Advise HR and management on best practices for employee relations and talent management.
- Conduct legal research on evolving employment legislation and best practices relevant to remote workforces.
- Support the implementation and management of global mobility and remote work policies.
- Assist with employment-related litigation and administrative claims.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations concerning employee information.
- Admitted Attorney with a minimum of 5 years of experience specializing in Employment Law.
- In-depth knowledge of South African Labour Relations Act, BCEA, EEA, and other relevant legislation.
- Experience advising on cross-border employment law matters is highly advantageous.
- Proven ability to develop and implement HR policies and procedures.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage workload effectively in a remote setting.
- Strong client service orientation and ability to build relationships remotely.
- Must be comfortable working in a fully remote capacity.
