Job Description

Key Responsibilities
  • Support staff management: train and guide employees to perform all grower‑section tasks, including treating pigs, loading and offloading pigs, and accurate record‑keeping.
  • Control and record medication use and assist with monthly medication and stock reconciliations.
  • Conduct daily checks: observe pigs, identify and report sick animals, clean feeding troughs and ensure creep feed is available.
  • Oversee transportation of grower pigs and ensure drivers comply with all health and safety rules.
  • Complete checklists for buildings, ventilation and temperature prior to pig receival; ensure pens are hygienically clean with fresh water.
  • Promote and uphold high animal‑welfare standards in line with the five freedoms.
  • Assist with basic maintenance on site and report faults, and support general farm work as needed.
Minimum Requirements
  • Relevant Agricultural Degree / Diploma, Animal Production,an advantage.
  • 3 - 5 years agricultural management or relevant livestock experience, with a good understanding of animal treatment and welfare.
  • Proven ability to supervise and develop staff in a production environment.
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to work on‑site, with flexibility for weekend/after‑hours duties as operationally required.
Competencies and Attributes
  • Gentle, patient and confident when handling animals, with a strong passion for piggery farming.
  • Self‑driven, mature and motivated, with strong attention to detail and time‑management skills.
  • Able to train others, make informed decisions, and take ownership and responsibility.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills for engaging with farm teams and completing records accurately.

Key Responsibilities Maintenance Duties

  • Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on farm equipment and facilities.

  • Ability to use maintenance tools and equipment safely.
  • Valid South African driver's licence.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and a strong work ethic.
